What We Offer

Croydon Chess offers a fun and family-friendly environment suitable for chess players of all ages and skill levels.

Our junior coaching program is run by club members Ian Birchall (Senior) and Jamie Yung (Junior).

We have regular tournaments for our Junior and Adult players, ranging from fun events such as Blitz (all moves in 5 minutes), through to more serious events such as the Croydon Open.

We also run the popular Croydon Chess Classic, an open weekend tournament in July, which draws many of the best players in Victoria.

Croydon Chess is affiliated with Chess Victoria under the auspices of the Australian Chess Federation.

In 2012 we are introducing a new structure for the club:

6.00pm - 7.00pm Junior Club

The junior club now opens at 6pm for friendly games, for junior competitions and for beginners learning to play. All junior coaching will now take place during the 7pm -7.30pm session.

7pm -7.30pm Junior and Senior Coaching – Charge $2

We have two coaching groups operating. Junior and Senior Coaching happens most club nights - please check the calendar. Advanced juniors may attend the Senior Coaching sessions.

7.30pm – 10.30pm Senior Club

Our Senior program starts from 7:30pm onwards, allowing both informal/casual games and regularly scheduled competitive tournament games. Junior members may stay on and play in Senior tournaments, but parents should be aware that their games may finish quite late.
