What we offer

What We Offer

Croydon Chess Incorporated is a not-for-profit organistaion managed by an elected Committee.

Overview of our Programs: Croydon Chess offers a fun and family-friendly environment suitable for chess players of all ages and skill levels.  While casual play is welcome, most of our members prefer the formal structure of tournament play, so our programs are based around that. Tournament play usually requires players to play touch move, record games and use a timer. While this may seem intimidating initially, it soon becomes second nature. We are happy to assist any new member with this.

Coaching: We have a weekly tiered coaching program for our junior players and occasional coaching nights for our senior players.

Tournaments: We have regular tournaments for our Junior and Adult players ranging from fun events, such as Blitz (all moves in 5 minutes), through to more serious events such as the Croydon Open. Most of our open Senior Club tournaments are ACF rated.

Prizes: We have an annual Presentation Night where we celebrate the successes of our players. Prizes are essentially trophies, medals and chess books, however we have 2 major tournaments in Senior Club where prize-money is offered - the Croydon Open and the Club Championship.

Affiliations: Croydon Chess is affiliated with Chess Victoria which, in turn, is an affiliate of the Australian Chess Federation.

Venues: Currently (2022) our Club meets at the Croydon RSL. Our Junior Club meets at Swinburne Croydon Campus - Cafeteria (building CG).

Chess Library: We have a small but varied library of chess books and DVDs from which members are welcome to borrow.
