Croydon Chess Club is currently celebrating its 20th year of operation. We have many people to thank for our ongoing existence, but we greatly appreciate those members who have returned year after year and provided the club with staunch support.
To help celebrate our 20 years, we are offering the following tournament with free entry to current and previous long-term Senior Club members.
So, if you were a member of the Senior Club for a number of years, then you are welcome to register. We would love to see you again.
The details:
Entry: Free entry, but limited to 42 players. Entries will be finalised by Sunday 18th August.
Eligibility: Current Senior Club member; Previous Senior Club member for at least 2 years.
Dates:___ 5 Thursday evenings; 22nd August to 19th September
Times:___ Games commence at 7:45pm
Venue:_____ Croydon RSL Hall, Civic Square, Croydon, VIC.
Format:___ 5 round Swiss.
Time control: 60min + 30s/move. ACF Classic rated.
Trophies:__ 1st place & 2ndplace (Tie-breaks* will split players on the same score.)
Most Combative Player (MCP): Awarded to the player who has gained the most points through upset wins or draws.
[Tie-break: Sum of (rating differences for upset wins) + 0.5 x (rating differences for upset draws)]
Prize-money: We wanted to give all players the opportunity to win a ‘top’ prize. So, each rating group has the same prize-money.
4 Rating groups:
1. 1600 and above 1st $100 2nd $60
2. 1300 to 1599 1st $100 2nd $60
3. 1000 to 1299 1st $100 2nd $60
4. 0 to 999 1st $100 2nd $60
Note 1: Players will be placed in a rating group based on their ACF rating. If a player doesn’t have an ACF rating, then they will be given a provisional rating based on previous tournament performances.
Note 2: Players will only be eligible for the prize-money in their rating group.
Note 3: Tie-breaks* will be used to split players on the same score.
Tie-breaks * Tie-breaks will be used to determine all prizes for players on the same score.
Except for the MCP award, the tiebreaks will be Buchholz – Cut 1 then Buchholz.
Covid precautions: Air purifiers in operation. Please don’t attend if you have any flu-like symptoms.
Absences: Please notify the organiser by text message of any foreseeable absence as soon as possible.
Forfeit time: 30 min after the start of play.
Byes:_ One half-point bye allowed in the first three rounds only.
If you require a half-point bye, please notify the Organiser at least 1 week in advance.
