The Candidates tournament in Toronto has finished and the new challengers for the World Championships, to be held later this year, have been decided.

In the Open World Championship, Gukesh Dommaraju from India will challenge Ding Liren of China. Gukesh is the youngest ever challenger at just 17-years-old.

In the Women’s World Championship, Tan Zhongyi will challenge Ju Wenjun. Both players are Chinese. Tan Zhongyi won the Candidates tournament with a clear margin of 1.5 points. She is a previous World Women’s Champion.
